The realm of spirits can be experienced through e.g. sudden changes in the environment such as walking through pockets of hot air. Though it is not visible it can be sensed in other ways and many who choose to become initiated must have “their eyes open”. E.g. inyanga– a herbalist, and sangoma– diviner undergo the training. They are both traditional healers that cure the illnesses and protect societies from witchcraft. Women are usually seen as culprits of witchcraft e.g. if they are good academically or things seen as masculine domain. Witchcraft could be seen explained as any misfortune that happened to someone e.g. death of someone close or an illness.
