I moved to Dorset in 2004 to develop an education programme on the geological landscape. As a South Asian woman in a predominantly white field, I often found myself isolated. Speaking out about rural racism led to a painful experience of injustice, but Dorset REC supported me with guidance and care. Their help gave me strength, and I went on to become their Vice Chair and an active Ambassador for race equity. Winning a National Diversity Award in 2020 was a proud moment, made possible by Dorset REC’s support. Leaving a legacy to them ensures others receive the same vital help.
