TERMS OF REFERENCE |
|
|
1. Aims
To build the capability of diversity
groups and organisations within
the voluntary and community sector.
To promote their effective involvement
within the voluntary and
community and third sector in the development of policy and the
planning and delivery of services.
The Forum will be a body for 2 way
communication between statutory and
third/community/voluntary sectors.
2.
Objectives
The primary purpose of the Poole and
Bournemouth Equality & Diversity Forum will
be to deliver positive change through its member organisations and
through initiatives led by the Forum as a whole. Benchmarks for such
change are:
• To develop and implement a strategic approach.
• To promote equality and diversity in Bournemouth
and Poole.
• To advocate fairness, justice and equal access
to all services.
• To ensure that our communities are safe for all.
• To remove direct and indirect discrimination.
• To work in partnership to identify and address
issues of inequality.
• To contribute to the review, revision and
implementation of Equalities Schemes and other equality and
diversity policies.
• To identify and respond to each others needs as
members of the forum.
3. Terms of Reference
| 3.1 |
The agencies
and their representatives within the Forum are
committed to working productively
together to address the strategic issues affecting diversity
within
Bournemouth and Poole, and to co-ordinate a joint partnership-working
approach to achieving the objectives. |

| 3.2 |
It is central
to the Forum’s successful functioning that the
members whose task it is to
directly represent the interests of vulnerable or other marginalised
minorities should be effectively empowered by the Forum’s structure and
in the
conduct of its meetings and decision-make processes. |

| 3.3 |
The forum will
address issues facing the following vulnerable and
marginalised groups from the six strands of equality; ethnicity, age,
disability, sexual orientation, gender and
faith. |
|
4.
Membership
Full Membership of the Forum will be
open to:
• All diversity
groups and organisations from the
voluntary and Community sector
Associate Membership will be open to:
• Public Sector
organisations, FE and Higher
Education Sector University,
Businesses etc
5.
Meetings
Meetings will take place three times a
year.
6.
Decision Making
Decisions will be made by consensus in
so far as this is possible.
Where this is not possible a vote will be taken and the majority
decision will stand. Where the vote is even, the Chair of the meeting
will have a casting vote. Each full member organisation is entitled to
one vote. Associate members will have no entitlement to vote.
