GOODBYE TO THE WORKERS REGISTRATION SCHEME
1st May marks the 7th anniversary of a number of countries joining the European Union.  Seven years marks the longest duration that an EU Member State can impose “transitional arrangements” on nationals of new accession states.  When eight central and eastern European states joined the EU in 2004, the UK opened up its labour market to the (A8) accession state nationals, but only on the condition that they registered with the Workers Registration Scheme (WRS).

From 1st May those transitional arrangements will be lifted for workers from Estonia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia and they will have the same access to the labour market as other EU nationals, apart from those from Bulgaria and Romania.  The latter joined in 2007 and were subject to even more restrictive transitional arrangements with access to very few types of work.  It is likely that they will have to wait until January 2014 for those restrictions to be lifted.

Introduction
Dorset is a delightful place to live. It has a mixed economy with tourism and rural enterprises playing a major role. Dorset Race Equality Council's new Jobsearch is here to help you find work. We want everyone to live free from negative discrimination so we are ready to help and advise you if this should arise. Dorset is generally a very welcoming place. Click here to meet a BME individual who has been successful in Dorset's job market. Nonetheless, if you ever feel that your career opportunities are being blighted by discrimination phone 01202 553003 (email address is at the foot of this page).

This is just the beginning of even greater things to come. This service will never rest in its quest for job opportunities. As fresh employment related intelligence builds this page will grow.

Below you will find links to many of the major job providers in the County. Both businesses and public sector providers that have one important thing in common - a serious commitment to diversity and equal opportunities.

To make your search easier the links below take you directly to the employment pages of the named provider. It is important that you visit these websites regularly. Some offer a news feed (subscribe and you will be alerted when new job opportunities come on line). In some cases you will be best advised to register with the website.

Bournemouth/Poole in the East of the County represents by far the most populous part of Dorset. However most employers cover the entire County or even the entire UK. Flexibility is key. Lots of individuals live in Dorset but commute as far as London.

One final point. If you need help we can advise or we will most likely know someone who can. If you think that discrimination is wrecking your chances of employment get in touch. We can help. Phone 553003 or email enquiries@dorsetrec.org.uk - you owe it to yourself and those people who will come along behind you.

Job agencies are using Twitter. They all appear to be commercial agencies. They might thus try to charge for their services. You thus use these services at your own risk.

It is hoped that this facility will be well used and help people find paid employment. Volunteering should not however be rejected. Many people working as volunteers have later gone on to find full time paid work with the same agencies.
